Among their developing technologies, they work on both new construction materials optimized for marine environments and for marine organism attachment. They are focusing on design (and development) of artificial reefs designed in alignment with local communities.

ARQUIMEA  produces reefs of natural biogenic materials. Their focus on sustainability has driven the development of compositions made of both natural materials combined with recycled biomaterials. Structures are made with only natural materials, recycled biomaterial or a combination. They can also add extremely little amounts of admixtures to reduce the total volume of water in the material, if preferred. The reefs are either casted or made using a 3D printing technique and are therefore highly flexible considering design. They are also working on new reef designs, allowing reef assemblages.

So far, their materials and structures have only been tested in shallow waters.  However, they aim to develop structures that can also be placed at depths, but factors such as light penetration index should be considered and evaluated at the different depths to facilitate growth on the structures. Current reefs in production are also optimized for Canarian species and Canarian habitats. Nonetheless, the material and design of new reefs could be adapted to other environments after a local analysis of the morpho dynamics and bionomic analysis of other geographical settings.

The price of the reef depends upon several factors, such as design, number of added materials and types of materials. A starting price of a simple 0.5 m3 reef, made of natural materials and including a few cavities to host marine life is around 8K euros. From that starting point and price, complexity in the design and increased size can be added for an increased price.
